Spring arrived and so did the snow! We have had more snow in the last week then we did all year it seems! It's still pretty warm outside that the snow is gone in a day. We are starting to see signs of spring- the tulips are popping up and the green grass is coming through!
Thursday the kids and I interviewed a new dayhome. Unfortunately our amazing day home is closing down May 1st so we have to find new care :( I'm so disappointed. Thankfully we have a few good leads so will likely have it sorted out by the end of this week after a few more interviews.
We had a play date with our friends in the afternoon since it's spring break and A was off. It was a good visit despite it being too short. Never enough time!
I had a chiro appointment in the evening and hoped to go to yoga after. Leo has been difficult at bedtime though so I rushed home to put him to bed and sit outside his door for an hour. This phase can end any time now.
Friday was a holiday so hubby was home! Audrey requested he make her flat eggs (fried egg) and she likes to help. She's going to be a better cook than me before we know it- which is just fine with me!
During nap time I went for a manicure.
We also decorated Easter Eggs in the afternoon. Leo was more interested in smashing the eggs and Audrey ate a crayon (no clue why) but I think it was a success!
Saturday morning we had brunch with hubby's family. Grandma and Grandpa had a scavenger hunt set up for the kids which they thought was the best thing ever! Then they had Auntie help them make one up for Grandpa!
We managed to get one decent photo of the 4 of us. Only 113 outtakes.
Audrey and I were twinning in our tulle skirts!
A friend of mine was in town for a visit. She knows I love a good workout so she invited me to try a Barre class with her at Hot Yoga on Crowfoot.
My only experience with barre is the Tracy Anderson pregnancy DVD Alison lent me when I was pregnant with Leo. I have zero dance background so I knew this was going to be interesting!
Not only was it a barre class, but it was warm barre. Which really means barre in a sauna.
It was a 50 minute class and it was pretty intense. Very different from my usual running or Beachbody workouts. The movements are so precise and small. You don't think it will be that hard but your muscles are burning and yelling at you to stop! We also giggled a lot at ourselves!
It was a very sweaty class and a great workout! I would definitely do it again! Since it was my first time at the studio I signed up for the $25 unlimited weekly pass. I'm hoping my schedule allows me to go 2 more times (to a yoga and spin class) before the week is over.
Afterwards we spent some quality time at Starbucks, catching up on each other's lives. Good seeing you K!
I came home and the family was working hard in the garden. Or in Audrey's case, giving the "baby deer" garden statue a bath.
We did some hopscotch on the driveway.
While Daddy made dinner, I took the kids for a walk. Leo wanted me to carry him so we went back for the wagon. Audrey insisted on sitting in it as well. Workout #2 of the day for mama!
Sunday was Easter!! Leo was so excited he woke up at 5:30am. Not cool kid! We had to stall him upstairs until a reasonable hour to wake up big sister. She woke up around 7:30 so we ventured downstairs to see what the Easter bunny brought!
Audrey was excited to do the egg hunt while Leo had no interest once he spotted the trains in his basket. So Audrey collected all the eggs.
I went back to bed for a bit because waking up at 5am on a weekend should be illegal, unless you are catching a flight somewhere tropical!
Meanwhile, hubby figured it was a good day to remove the side of Leo's crib, the first step to a big boy bed. I'm not ready to give up the "cage" but if it helps Leo's sleep it might be worth it. This kid used to be the BEST sleeper but the last 2 months have been rough on us all. Early mornings, fighting naps, fighting bed time, waking in the middle of the night to party. My poor back can't handle another night sleeping on the ground beside his bed.
Since hubby had the great idea to take the side off, I told him he could deal with nap time ;) Turns out it wasn't too bad and Leo mostly stayed in his bed before dozing off.
I went out for a run in the afternoon. It was about 10C outside so no long sleeves needed. I also used my new Flipbelt for the first time. It's awesome!! I only had to adjust it once on my hips and it doesn't bounce at all!
After Leo woke up from his nap, we headed to my sister's house for Easter dinner with my side of the family. It was totally chaotic and wonderful. There were 3 dogs there also.
Gee, I wonder where these kids got their sweet tooth from? I promise they were excited about their cookies, despite their somber faces.
We left relatively early, before the kids started to meltdown, as it was already past their bedtime. The one downside to not hosting the dinner is having to leave early :(
Night #1 in the side-less crib went ok. Leo loved having his own pillow (we need to get him one that is flatter though)-- at one point he laid across the whole pillow!
He still moves around a lot (sleeping and not) so before I went to sleep I had to go in and move him since his head was dangling off the bed. We haven't used the baby monitor much in the last 6 months or so, especially at night time but we have to now that he is free to get out of bed on his own!
He did wake up around 1:00am. I heard him whimpering, checked the monitor and sure enough he had rolled off the bed. I went in to move him and he said "Mommy, I falled!" We will have to get him a bigger bed sooner rather than later.
Let's hope this change is the turning point for his sleeping issues.
So that was our Easter weekend! I'll admit I'm looking forward to a "quiet" April. I need a break from all the festivities!
